Inaugural International Dance Biennial
in Abidjan, Ivory Coast
Our artistic director Carl has been collaborating with Serge Aimé Coulibaly, founder and artistic director of Faso Danse Theatre in Burkina Faso, West Africa, to mentor and coach three talented emerging West African choreographers: N'da Eloi Hortence (Ivory Coast), Koffi-kégou Afiadegnigban (Burkina Faso) & Karfou Konan Mathieu (Ivory Coast) as a part of the festival's choreography coaching program.
The program features pairs of established dance artists based in Africa, Europe and the United States working with a group of new dance-makers and will premiere these works at the Goethe-Institut Côte d'Ivoire as a part of the Biennale's closing event.
Carl expressed, "This experience has been transformative. I am learning so much from all of my collaborators whose commitment, passion and artistry to the art they make in the face of enormous personal challenges is simply inspiring. I am deeply thankful to the Biennial for the opportunity to be here."
