Eddie Oroyan

Oroyan was a founding mover and is currently an Artistic Associate for Black Label Movement. In 2012, he moved to Brussels working with Ultima Vez for six years (primarily touring What the Body Does not Remember and In Spite of Wishing and Wanting). Oroyan continues in Europe working with Emanuel Gat Dance since 2017. His experience also spans Creach/Company, Shapiro & Smith, ARENA Dances, Zenon, Andrea Miller, and Roberto Olivan.

Oroyan collaborated with Carl Flink at ADF 2014 (An Unkindness of Ravens), and with Rakesh Sukesh for Zürich Tanzt 2015 (Borderland). He has created several other works over the years, but since 2018 Oroyan has been co-artistic directing My Homeless Lover, premiering their first work, Pasta e Lava, for the 2018 Resistere e Creare festival (Genova, Italy). Currently, they are developing/touring a 20-minute work, IVY, which will piece into an evening length work, We Shall Not Sleep.

Oroyan is also teaching extensively, sharing courses in contemporary dance, partnering, and musicality, all threaded with animal instinct training and meditation. After an injury in late 2014, Oroyan began a regular practice of meditation. His performing and studies have long included animal reflex training and proper response, but as his personal practice evolved it has and continues to teach him curiosity and awareness of the more subtle and delicate, the empathetic. Oroyan is ever on the journey for the balance of uncaged wildness and thoughtful awareness while testing limits.
