In this physical and fluid octet choreographer Carl Flink was inspired by the stark dichotomy of holding his infant child in his arms late at night while watching the initial images from the United States’ current war in Iraq on the television. Struck by the unsullied beauty of his infant child juxtaposed against the daily reports of dead Americans and Iraqis many of whom were children or young adults, Flink created a simple and surreal abstraction of peaceful domesticity on the American homefront embedded in the brutality of distant war with unclear purpose.
